History
Buddhism was founded in the 6th century BCE by Gautama Buddha. Born in Lumbini (present-day Nepal), Buddha renounced royal life in search of truth. He attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. His teachings centered on the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, emphasizing non-violence, compassion, and the Middle Way. Emperor Ashoka of the Maurya dynasty greatly promoted Buddhism. Over time, it spread from India to many parts of Asia, including Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, and Tibet, influencing philosophy, art, and culture.
